I saw this lovely quote in the paper today and thought I’d share it here. The Speaking Tree is trove of wisdom! I admit I don’t always understand the esoteric spiritual facts they try to shed white light on, but plain ones like these always, always get to me. It’s incredible how a simple one liner can so effortlessly give the mind something to ponder over.
I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask, “Mother, what was war?”
~ Eve Merriam
This reminded me of another quote-
I kept asking who did it?
Israel? Palestina?
Russians? Ukraine?Then my mom answered.
Humans.
Humans killing humans.~ Unknown
And another one by Niccolò Machiavelli-
Wars begin when you will, but they do not end when you please.
There’s great wisdom in these words, yet wars are ubiquitous. We wage wars to kill, to satisfy avarice. For grabbing land and oilfields. Wars for power and status (that often manifest themselves as wars of religion)… and wars in the name of nationalism. And then, we talk of a mega war to end all wars. But does such an end really exist?
What’s your take on this? Do you think the wisdom offered here is impossible to put into effect? How much more bloodshed before we finally perceive the uselessness and sheer stupidity of war? Will the realisation ever dawn on humans? Or will we keep warring till the end of days? Can a mega war really end all wars and bring peace?

I don’t think a mega war will bring peace. We can’t fight war with war.
War is a part of us, it will only end with our extinction. I just wish we all would understand how useless and trivial war in all its forms is before it’s too late.

You’ve put it aptly! I couldn’t have worded it better myself, this is exactly what I feel about wars.
Thank you for the comment:)

Here while reading your post my thoughts travelled a bit backwards. Ur post made me think about a small piece of song which I heard in the movie Gulliver’s travels. It is quiet funny yet it conveys a lot big meaning. The song is like ” war!! What is it good for ,? Absolutely nothing ” and it goes on like that. Nice post dr friend

This is lovely.. In a sad way.
I wasn’t aware of this quote, thanks for posting it here 🙂
Clearly Einstein was able to predict the future with way more clarity than most of us!

We never learn. Since time began we’ve been at war. Apparently this will never end. We’ve learned nothing.

War is so devastating yet most of the time due to conflicting interests and worldly desires people tend to ignore the blood sheds. I highly doubt if we will ever perceive the uselessness of war.

Ya, that’s the view a lot of us hold! It’s just sad how greed almost always trumps humanity!

Perhaps it will only end with the end of us. Going by things, I suspect a big one is inevitably coming up quite soon. That, or maybe it’s just me being paranoid.

It’s not just empty paranoia.. I guess a big war’s just inevitable now. There’s just too much intolerance, too much greed and too much hate.
Just makes me sad, wars are always mindless.

Wars are inevitable because of conflict of interest.
