The tendency to whine and to complain may be taken as the surest sign of a little soul and inferior intellect.

O-O-Ouch.
Was this written for me? Hmm. Francis Jeffrey you’re very mean.
The Metro’s too crowed, I struggle to breathe and I crib. The weather’s shitty, I cry and I crib. Classroom fans don’t work, I sweat and I crib. Too much traffic? I curse and I crib. Shitloads of papers to read? I procrastinate and I crib. And if I run out of water? I feel thirsty and I crib…O this list has no end.
Tell me, is this quote a jibe at me? Err, yes.
I know I’m guilty, but hear me out, please? In order to live up to my blog name, I’ve decided to let go of some nasty habits. Yes, you guessed it right, I’ve decided to put an end to my incessant, constant, non-stop, useless complaining.
So, when I go back to college in two days, I’ll not crib over stuff I can and can’t control (I’ll occasionally vent, though). I read somewhere that you cannot complain your way to a fulfilling life. Let’s test this saying, shall we? Let’s see if I can build a happier me. Let’s see if you can build a merrier you.
P.S. Notice that venting and complaining aren’t the same.

I find that short-term venting or complaining can create space in my head for problem solving – this works especially well if I have a lovely listener willing to guide me back if I stray into a chronic state of either! And no matter where one lives, there will always be something to work on or focus on, we are forever changing and becoming…I love your posts, there is always something to learn or think upon!

Indeed. Everyone needs to let off steam from time to time. I’m only against chronic complaining :p
And thank you, I’m so glad you can relate to my posts 🙂

Oh no no. I’m still going to complain about stuff worth complaining. I’ll just not be complaining all the time :p

Hey ! It feels so good to see a post like this 😏
It’s great that you have resolved not to complaint anymore !
I read it somewhere that complaining erases all the misfortune you have accumulated over time. 🙂

We’re all guilty of it from time to time, so long as it’s not the norm for us though. We all have moments when we feel like the world is against us. Though we must fight those feelings and remind ourselves that things could be worse and we are more blessed than we know.

Very true 🙂
It’s takes courage to put on a smiling face when one is down, but the rush of positivity is worth it! ❤️

You can do it! It’s hard not to complain but this sentiment is shushed when I see someone worse off than me. At that point I become thankful instead.

Thank for the encouragement! Your strategy is a very effective one, I’ll definitely employ it! 😀

What’s the difference between venting and complaining? One just seems more violent and emotionally charged than the other.

You vent when you want to lighten your burden and let off steam. Complaining, on the other hand exacerbates negatively and doesn’t help in finding solutions. The fact that complaining is more violent and emotionally charged sets it apart from venting.
Well that’s what I think. 🙂

I was saying venting was more violent and emotionally charged.
Both venting and complaining drives me crazy. I’m a problem solver, not a dweller. And after living in the Third World for 25 years, the things my American friends and family find to complain about often makes me wish I didn’t have ears. LoL
But…to each their own.

O sorry, I didn’t quite get you there. I live in a third world country, I was born here. We as a people love to complain. There’s lots of noise but no real change. This kind of complaining is bad, that’s what I meant.
As far as I’m concerned, I may be living in one of the poorest countries in the world, but I’m definitely better off than 70% of our population. Therefore I should stop complaining and making a big show of my first world problems and count my blessings. But I can’t stop venting and expressing my frustration at the system’s apathy.

That’s a good outlook. I hope you can stick to it. Complaining less and acting more on solutions got me out of the hell hole of the Third World back in 2015. Maybe this new outlook will open new opportunities for you as well.

It seems human nature for us to whine about life.

It sure is. But too much complaining means too much negativity. It’s just not good for a happy soul :p

Agreed. It’s tough to be positive considering the state of our world.

Very true. I’ve just come out of my sad cocoon so I should know :p
But negativity doesn’t take one anywhere. It’s of no use. So might as well put on a positive attitude! It has to be better, right?

No. I really have no control over the weather, right? So why should I complain. I see no reason here :p

That isn’t all you complain about though? Or is it? Lol

Hmm. You’re making me think.
Well, it’s mostly stuff that I can’t control. Like the teacher taking an extra lecture, too much traffic, my sister playing stupid music at 1 am… blah blah.
But yes, I also crib about the fact that my blue dress won’t fit me anymore because I gained 3 kilos lol

See, that’s complaining with reason lol and what’s 3 kilos in pounds?

I had to check that. I kilo= 2.2 pounds :p

I’m sure you still look fine. Unfortunately, clothes tend to not fit or fit too tight when we put on a few pounds. I had to dispose of my old wardrobe for a new because I put on like 20-30 pounds lol so I feel for you 😁

Of course I look fine! It’s not me, it’s the dress 😏
That’s the problem with dresses. Buy a dress, wear it once. The next night it won’t fit you because you gained .009 kilos lol
You gained weight but at least you got to buy new clothes yay 😏

That’s terrible! Thankfully, I’m a man and won’t ever have to deal with that. Hey, I had no choice! Lol
