Why, little girl, are you afraid of ghosts?
Does the gory mien scare you?
Or is it the spectrally icy glare it holds?
Why, little boy, are you fearful of fiends?
They lurk not in gloomy shadows,
But inside your tiny head
Oh children! Ponder awhile,
Can poltergeists even hold a knife?
Ever seen ghouls steal a living life?
Oh kids, think further,
Do humans not petrify you more?
They bomb and shoot—
revel in blood and gore
They mow crowds with lorries,
No reason to speak of,
These brainwashed imbeciles
—Are not even sorry
Hearts cast of stones, can’t appreciate
Life of others, or their own
These are the ghosts of our time—
Humans who’ve lost their souls
So tell me, must you be terrified of ghosts?
Or be scared witless of the fact that
Humans aren’t human anymore?
A ghost could be humping on my chest right now and I wouldn’t even know. But when humans are driven by this crazy, irrational impulse to slaughter and kill, it affects me. I can see the blood and feel the pain. We’ve all seen Paris, Brussels, Iraq, Jeddah, Turkey, Nice, Orlando, Dhaka…and more. God knows what’s next.
Despite the the terror, let us try to be patient, let us try to spread love. Let’s vow to make this world a better place. Let’s make love, not war. Let’s prove that there’s more good in the world than there is evil.
